Alpha Technologies plans to hire 242 employees by the end of 2019

CustomsAlpha Technologies,  a  support services and software development firm currently located in Doylestown, PA,  will move its headquarters into Wilmington by 2016 as it launches a plan lure information technology work that has been done off shore.

The expansion of the company to Wilmington was first reported by DelawareBusinessDaily.com.

The release said the office will hire an additional 242 employees by the close of 2019. Alpha purchased the former One Customs House building on King Street in downtown t house the operation. That is a sharp increase from previous hiring estimates.

Last month, the state Council on Development Finance recommended a $1.2 million state financial package for the company.

Alpha Technologies is a global firm that currently employs about 400 workers around the world, with staff in four United States locations, as well as the Czech Republic, India, Poland, and Singapore.

The company hopes to train individuals to become mid-level technology workers who could offer technical support for a variety of products. The company will operate Center for Excellence with an intense training program.

Amrit Gurung, vice president at Alpha, said in a previous interview the company sees the Center of Excellence attracting technical support business for electronics and other types of equipment. Centers handling these issues are often located in India, the Philippines, and other nations.

Over the years, the cost advantages of operating technical  centers overseas have diminished as wages have increased in emerging nations,  according to Gurung.

“This relocation was made possible with the support of the city’s Economic Development Strategic Fund,” said City of Wilmington Economic Development Director Jeff Flynn. “The Fund represents the city’s primary tool to provide incentives to businesses located in, or looking to relocate to, the city of Wilmington.” Through the Strategic Fund, a business can gain access to capital to help grow its workforce, augment working capital, acquire new machinery and equipment, and assist with relocation costs.
