Cinemark theater to open later this month

CinemarkCinemark Holdings will open its 12-screen theater next to Christiana Mall in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The 50,760-square-foot theatre is outside Christiana Mall in the parking lot across from Nordstrom/Target.

The 50,760-square-foot theatre will be located in the parking lot across from Nordstrom/Target. The  all-digital movie theatre that will feature the company’ s newCinemark NextGendesign concept. The complex was originally announced as a 17-acreen theater.

Rival Regal Cinemas has also announced plans for a theater complex at the former Sears complex off  I-95 and Route 273 and a short drive to the Mall.  However, no work has begun at the site of the proposed retail complex. Click here for previous story

Christiana Mall, the largest mall in Delaware, is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, Inc.

NextGen amenities will include:State-of-the-art viewing environment with wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor screens available in all auditoriums.4K digital projection powered by Barco projectors; RealD 3D capabilityEnhanced, sound systems that will enable customers to hear the movie as the filmmakers intended.

Cinemark’s innovative self-serve concession stand – offering freshly-popped popcorn, Coca-Cola fountain beverages and favorite candy brands.

Cinemark XD is described as  a complete entertainment environment featuring a large wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen, plush seating and a custom digital surround sound system featuring the latest in sound technology.  The digital images will be delivered by a Doremi server and a Barco DLP digital projector.

Cinemark is expected to close its theater in First State Plaza, Stanton.

The opening comes during a down period for the theater industry, which has seen a lack of blockbuster movies from Hollywood that draw more casual fans.
