Technology Forum of Delaware members got a rare glimpse of Wilmington history with a Halloween-themed event that focused on the building housing the University and Whist Club.

The historic home on a hilly location off Broom Street was the home of Revolutionary War hero and physician Dr. James Tilton.

Tilton, moved from Dover and purchased the home, which was later expanded and had a number of owners over the years.

The tour featured a look at portions of its lower level, which includes a slab. The slab was reportedly used for surgeries and perhaps autopsies.

Employees of the private club have reported unexplained events including lights going on and off, a woman singing and a child looking for a ball in the carriage house on the property.

The mysterious events were recounted during the tour of the home, which until the 1990s housed a couple of club members.

The University and Whist Club was established in 1958 after the merger of two clubs in the city.

It offers the services of a private club, but also serves as a venue for wedding, social gatherings and business meetings.

The club was in the news in September when rapper Kanye West, wife and reality TV star, Kim Kardashian and their daughter North West attended a wedding event at the club.

The next event for the Tech is entitled “Become a Maker with 3D Printing.”  The event will be held on  Nov. 19 at the UD College of Health Sciences on the STAR Campus.
