The team-based workplace of W. L. Gore & Associates has put the company on the “Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the 17th consecutive year. Headquartered in Newark, Gore also has a large cluster of operations in neighboring areas of Maryland and Pennsylvania. Gore employs more than 10,000 worldwide.
The company is known for innovations, including waterproof Gore-Tex fabric, cardiovascular devices, filtration technologies, guitar strings, and electronic cables used in space missions, among hundreds of other offerings.
At Gore, associates play an active role in choosing what they work on and defining their career paths.
“More than 50 years ago, our company founders set out to create a work environment that promotes collaboration and innovation,” said Gore CEO Terri Kelly. “Today, we take great pride in our continued recognition as a top workplace in the United States and around the world, and we also continue to focus on cultivating a work environment where creativity and innovation thrive.” Gore was selected among hundreds of companies vying for a place on the 2014 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list. Applicant companies participate in a selection process, including an employee survey and an in-depth questionnaire about their programs and company practices.
Great Place to Work, the research and consulting firm behind the rankings, has found that people believe they work for great organizations when they consistently trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with, the release announcing the selection of Gore noted.
In addition to appearing on all 17 Fortune “100 Best Companies to Work For” lists, Gore earned recognition in three books by the same name published in the 1980s and 1990s. The company is also consistently named a top workplace in a number of other countries. In October, Gore ranked No. 5 on the Great Place to Work Institute’s list of top multinational workplaces.
