Thomas Harvey, III, president, Harvey, Hanna & Associates, Inc.,  announced  that Thomas J. Hanna has been named Chief Operating Officer  for the commercial real estate redevelopment firm, located in Wilmington, effective immediately.

Hanna has served as HHA’s vice president of the company since 1997, integrating all aspects of commercial property management for the company’s retail, business, and industrial holdings.

Hanna’s sphere of influence at HHA extends to planning, design, construction, acquisitions, leasing, finance, human resources, sales, operations, marketing, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and the coordination of interdepartmental functions.

In his expanded role, Hanna’s core focus will remain on establishing, managing and growing the HHA real estate entities at the regional and national levels.

Under the leadership of company President Thom Harvey,   Hanna has directed the company’s portfolio growth from a modest 30,000 square feet of total space in 1996 to its current scale of over three million square feet of space.

 

Hanna has orchestrated $95 million of new acquisitions during the past seventeen years. Additionally,  Hanna has directed the site development and leasing of 2.3 million square feet of new industrial and commercial space since 1997. He has also managed in excess of 1.2 million square feet of lease renewals since 2009, during which period the company maintained a 97.8% occupancy rate. Over the course of his career at HHA,  Hanna has organized $150 million of commercial and institutional financing for the HHA real estate entities.  Hanna has also led the sale and recapitalization of $59 million of assets between 2002 and present day.

 

Prior to joining Harvey, Hanna & Associates, Hanna held various management and administrative positions at Harvey & Harvey, Inc. (later Waste Management, Inc.) between 1991-1997.

 

Currently, as founder, and with the support of HHA, Hanna is helping to stimulate growth at the company’s in-house non-profit organization, The Delaware KIDS (Kids In Distressed Situations) Fund, which helps at-risk youth in Delaware overcome a variety of life challenges.

 

Hanna also lends his expertise to the Centreville School’s annual capital campaign and, under the leadership of President Thom Harvey, has helped advise this institution with real estate and project initiatives.

 

Currently,  Hanna also sits on the Board of Directors at Blackfeather Academy, and most recently retired as an original board member of the Newport Rowing Club, both local youth-based nonprofit organizations. In 2011,  Hanna was awarded the 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year by New Castle County Chamber of Commerce.  Hanna is a licensed real estate professional in Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

 

Ward elected to DuPont board

DuPont  announced that Patrick J. Ward, chief financial officer and vice president of Cummins Inc., was elected to its board of directors.

Ward’s election is effective Oct. 23.

 

“Pat is an accomplished global business leader who possesses tremendous financial expertise and experience,” said DuPont Chair and CEO Ellen Kullman.  “We look forward to the wealth of knowledge and insight that Pat will bring to the DuPont board.”

 

Ward, 50, has served since 2008 as CFO for Cummins Inc., a global power leader that designs, manufactures, distributes and services engines and related technologies.  He has held a broad range of financial leadership positions since joining Cummins in 1987, including serving as vice president, engine business controller, from 2005-08 and executive director, power generation business controller, from 2003-05.

 

Ward is a graduate of the Dundee College of Commerce in Scotland and he earned his master’s degree from Strathclyde Graduate Business School also in Scotland.

 

New Easter Seals CEO

Easter Seals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore Board Chair Cynthia Morgan  announced the unanimous decision of the Board of Directors to select Kenan (Ken) Sklenar of Youngstown,  as the new President/Chief Executive Officer of the organization, succeeding William J. Adami, who passed away in January.  Sklenar comes to Delaware from another Easter Seals affiliate, Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio.  He will start his new job in Delaware on November 1st.

 

“The death of our former CEO, Bill Adami, left a hole in our hearts at Easter Seals and in the disability community,” said Morgan. “The entire staff at Easter Seals has done a fabulous job honoring Bill’s legacy with a passionate dedication to improving the lives of people with disabilities.

 

“The board is delighted to be able to turn to someone who is a leader in the Easter Seals family and who has spent years dedicated to the Easter Seals mission in his current job,” Morgan said.

 

“Ken’s extensive experience at a smaller Easter Seals affiliate gives the board confidence that he will do an excellent job leading our organization. With more than 30 years in the health care field, Ken has the knowledge, as well as the passion for the mission to assure that Easter Seals will continue to be the premier provider of disability services in our region.”

 

As CEO of Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties in Ohio for the past 18 years, Ken has been responsible for the operational, budgetary and program development of the affiliate which offers medical rehab services, child care, adult day programs and a host of community services, including respite care and services for senior citizens. He  is currently the immediate past chairman of Easter Seals Affiliate Leadership Network having just completed his term as the Chairman, a position elected by Easter Seals CEOs throughout the country.

 

Ken and his wife, Kathy, will relocate to Delaware from Ohio with their 12 year-old son, Ryan. Their two other children, Kelly and Eric, are currently in graduate school in Ohio.

 

Steele to step down as Chief Justice

 

Myron Steele informed Gov. Jack Markell  that he intends to retire from the position of Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court effective November 30, Markell  issued the following statement:

 

“A judiciary is only as good as the men and women who serve in it, and quite simply, Chief Justice Steele is as good as they get. In addition to serving as Chief Justice, he has been a Superior Court judge, a Vice Chancellor on our Court of Chancery, and a member of the Supreme Court.  He has been a tireless and forceful advocate for our state’s judiciary and indeed, for the entire State of Delaware. It is no secret that Delaware’s judiciary is the finest in the nation. I want to thank Chief Justice Steele for his tireless efforts in building and maintaining a court system that is truly a national model.  On behalf of all Delawareans, I thank him for his exemplary service to our state. His intelligence, keen judgment, and passion will be missed.”

 

Prior to November 30,  Markell will request that the Judicial Nominating Commission begin the process of soliciting, reviewing, and recommending candidates to replace the Chief Justice.

 

Dental Society president named

 

Dr. Paul Christian, a Middletown General Dentist since 1999, was recently elected President of the Delaware State Dental Society representing 436 Delaware Dentists.  He has held various leadership positions within the Society since 1995, including coordination of the yearly “Give Kids A Smile Program” which provides complimentary dental care to Delaware children statewide.

 

Dr. Christian has been an active member of the American Dental Association (ADA) since 1994, and this year will serve as an alternate delegate at the ADA’s Annual House of Delegates Meeting in New Orleans.

 

He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of LDS Dentists, Better Business Bureau of Delaware, and the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

Dr. Christian, a graduate of the Temple University School of Dentistry, has served the community through his participation with the Appoquinimink School District Financial Advisory Committee, the Boy Scouts of America, and together with his wife Joanne, has been a foster parent throughout the years to over 30 children.

 

Dr. and Mrs. Christian have five children, and reside in Townsend.

Nanticoke  welcomes physician

Nanticoke Health Services welcomed Raju Maharjan, M.D. to the Nanticoke Physician Network. Maharjan joins Nanticoke Health Services as a Neurologist and is currently accepting new patients at 701 Middleford Road, Suite 201, Seaford. Maharjan graduated with his medical diploma from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2003. He completed his Neurology Residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and his Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship at West Virginia University.

 

He worked as a physician in Nepal for a couple of years before coming to the US. In 2005,  Maharjan volunteered with the Association of Medical Doctors of Asia to help the tsunami victims in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. He is fluent in Nepali and Hindi in addition to English.

 

Nanticoke is nationally accredited by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and is a Gold Plus Award performer according to the American Heart/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines.
