Report of threat leads to assault weapons, arrest

Untitled.ASSAULTA Wilmington man was arrested and found to be is possession of an assault rifle and marijuana after allegedly  threatening Delaware Park Casino security staff last evening.
 
The incident occurred at approximately 11  p.m. when Delaware Park Casino security received a call from Brandon K. Buchanan, 28, of Wilmington, DE. Buchanan demanded that the security officer remove one of Buchanan’s relatives from the casino, and threatened to go  to the casino with his assault rifle.
 
At around midnight, a trooper  found  Buchanan in the parking lot of the casino, standing outside of his vehicle. The Trooper performed a pat down search of Buchanan and found a full magazine containing twenty rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition in Buchanan’s pants pocket. A search of Buchanan’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of a Hungarian AMD-65 7.62x39mm assault rifle from the backseat, as well as 2.5 grams of marijuana and a pipe.
 
A subsequent search of Buchanan’s residence was conducted and a Century Arms 7.62mm assault rifle and additional 7.62mm ammunition was located, along with a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic handgun. 
Buchanan was taken into custody without incident and charged with drug, endangerment and commission of a felony by a firearm. He was arraigned and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institute on $62,350 cash bond.
Possession of the weapons is not illegal, although legislation is in the works to ban such weapons in the state.
