Small plane crashes near Dover; pilot killed

The pilot of a small plane was killed Sunday night in Kent County.

At around 9:35 p.m. members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company located the wreckage of a small Piper aircraft that had been reported missing. 

The pilot was believed to be the only occupant of the aircraft.

A search for the aircraft was launched when an emergency radio call was received by the control tower at Dover Air Force Base. The aircraft then disappeared from radar.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are en route to the scene and will begin their investigation into the crash.

 Troopers along with officers from the Department of Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Division, and firefighters from Camden, Cheswold, Dover, Frederica, Hartly, Leipsic, and Little Creek conducted  searches in the area of Bayside Drive and North Little Creek Road.
