(Gallery) National Guard company gets send-off

guardOn Thursday, Gov. Jack  Markell joined Major General Francis Vavala, Dr. Jill Biden, approximately 127 members of the 153rd Military Police Company and their family members and friends for a departure ceremony prior to leaving for Afghanistan.

The 153rd, headquartered in Delaware City, is scheduled for a 12 month active-duty tour. Following the ceremony, they report to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, in New Jersey, to receive training specific to the Afghan theater. The unit will be there four to six weeks before heading to Afghanistan.
