Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay will honor Brigadier General Carol A. Timmons as the 2013 Woman of Distinction at the 14th Annual Women of Distinction dinner, to be held Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Hotel du Pont.
Timmons is the Assistant Adjutant General – Air, Delaware National Guard and the Commander of the Delaware Air National Guard. She is responsible for providing trained, equipped and mission ready forces in support of federal mobilization requirements and state emergency operations. General Timmons develops plans, programs and policies in support of Delaware’s C-130 Wing and maintains liaison with major commands and the National Guard Bureau.
She is also a pilot for United Airlines, according to an interview with the Cape Gazette. She resides in Rehoboth Beach.
“Brigadier General Carol Timmons is an excellent role model for Girl Scouts and exemplifies what our organization is about – developing girls of courage, confidence and character,” said Anne T. Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay. “She has never let barriers hold her back, beginning with her childhood dreams of becoming a pilot to now, as the first female general officer at the Delaware Air National Guard.”
This will be the 14th annual Women of Distinction event. Each of the program’s honorees have made significant contributions to their organizations and the community as well as paved the way for future female leaders. The women have lived by the Girl Scout Promise and Law, embodying the universal values of service, hard work, honesty, integrity and patriotism.
The Women of Distinction program features about 75 teen Girl Scouts in significant leadership roles — as Mistress of Ceremonies, greeters, vocalists and performing the flag ceremony. A pre-dinner program with the honoree and other panelists offers girls time to ask questions about careers and the professional world.
A leading advocate for girls, the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay builds girls of courage, confidence and character by providing personal leadership development and programs that teach skills for the real world.
