The Delaware Division of  Unemployment insurance is warning employers about a “phishing” scam.

The division reported that employers are being sent an email claims to be from the state agency. The division stated that it does not seek personal information via email. The scammer is  using an address of @detma.org.

Information security experts say that no one should provide information, such as Social Security or credit card numbers  via e mail. A telltale sign that phishing is taking place is the return e mail address. In this case, the giveaway was the use of “org.” State government does not use that designation.

The division stated that if anyone has provided such information, the employer should contact their local law enforcement agency and take other steps to protect such information.
