Liquor stores in the county that borders Delaware were reportedly raided in an effort to determine whether smuggling to New York was taking place.

 States up and down the Eastern Seaboard could face the same scrutiny, due to New York’s high liquor taxes that encourage shipments from lower-tax states like Maryland and Delaware.

Cecil County ended up with a large number of high-volume liquor stores, due, in large part, to the lack of Sunday liquor sales in neighboring Delaware.  That law has since been changed, but many First State customers remained loyal to the Maryland stores.
