Newark’s auto row is a little smaller with the departure of  Nucar Buick-GMC.
The dealership on Cleveland Avenue closed in early September with a sign on the showroom door announcing that General Motors had bought back the business.
The automaker was able to close many dealerships in Delaware and elsewhere while going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings a few years ago.
Nucar  still has GM dealerships in New Castle and Lewes.
The dealership was perhaps best known as a dealer for Pontiac, a line that was dropped as GM went through the restructuring that included the U.S. government holding an equity position.
The government continues to own stock in the company, although it has sold off much of its stake.
Union Park in Wilmington is now the northern Delaware  location for Biuck and the GMC truck line.
The Anchor dealership, across the line in Elkton, Md., also sells and services Buicks and GMCs.
