Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that included two school buses and a house, Monday morning.
At around 7:25 a.m., Monday, Lisa Robinson, 42, of Middletown, was driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica southbound on Summit Bridge Road near Middletown . She stopped to make a left turn on Noxontown Road when an Appoquinimink School District bus – driven Jerome Altemus, 60, of Clayton and traveling on Summit Bridge Road southbound – struck the rear of the stopped Pacifica.
The impact sent the Pacifica into the northbound lane of Summit Bridge Road. The Pacifica was then struck by a Christina School District bus driven by Denise W. Cannon, 60. of New Castle. That bus swerved to the right, traveling off the roadway into a ditch.
A 2004 Kia Sedona SUV, driven by Latoyia Rothwell, 40, of Smyrna, was on Summit Bridge Road northbound and attempted to avoid the previous collision . Her vehicle swerved to the right, off of the roadway, traveled up an embankment and struck the chimney of a house on Noxontown Road.
The occupants of the Christina School District bus, Cannon , a 5-year-old girl and the 61-year old -female aide were transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with minor injuries. The lone occupant of the home on Noxontown road was not injured.
Altemus, the driver of the Appoquinimink bus, was cited for Inattentive Driving. The roadway was closed for two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
