Water supplies for businesses and residences remain in good shape, although the situation is being closely watched.

All utilities reported that demands were normal, with sufficient water supplies at this time, according to Stewart Lovell of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Water Supply Section.

The Delaware Geological Survey reported the state’s ground water, stream flows, and reservoirs range between below normal and normal levels.

Northern Delaware is in better shape this time around, due to additional supplies. More than two billion gallons of water have been developed following periods of spot water shortages in portions of New Castle County.

Projects included an expansion of Hoopes Reservoir near Wilmington and a reservoir in Newark.

“While some recent scattered showers are helping, conserving water during periods of heat and lack of rainfall will help preserve existing water supplies and reserve our storage,” DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara said. “Our water supply is a precious natural resource that Delaware residents have a direct influence on through our use and our conservation of it. Wise water use practices make good sense for the environment and for your pocketbook any time of year.”
