Those hoping that Fisker Automotive will speed up conversion of the former G.M. Boxwood Plant received a little good news on Monday. Bloomberg and other news sources report that Fisker has received an astonishing $1 billion in funding with the latest commitments.

Fisker still needs a half a billion dollar federal loan commitment so the plant can produce what is now widely known at the Fisker “Atlantic,” a mid-size luxury hybrid. The loan is being held up because of Fisker not reaching unspecified milestones.

Fisker is introducing the new automobile this week at the New York Auto Show and if spy shots are any indication, it is a striking piece of automotive technology.

Still, it is true that Fisker has struggled with the battery issues on the plug-in hybrid that can do many daily commutes on electric power alone. The problems included about the worst thing that can happen for a new vehicle – a failure while undergoing tests at Consumer Reports.

Here’s a short piece from Bloomberg News.
